Series The 33 Masks of Christ

“I had the idea of making thirty-three masks of Christ, corresponding to each year of his life.
The theme does not have a carnival-like sense; rather, it is motivated by the historical circumstance of what happened to Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion: he was stripped and flogged, a purple robe was placed on him, and he was crowned king of the Jews. In other words, he was given several masks, but behind all of them was the true Jesus, the Son of God. The same happens with each of us; throughout our lives, we are many and one at the same time. That is why I believe we must look beyond appearances to find the truth; and precisely that action of unveiling leads us to remove the masks we wear.”
