Series 'The Sacred Family' 1988

'I discover this material in the sequins and golds used by Bárbaro Rivas in his painting. To me, it was a challenge of using bad taste. Later, it became a problem that I took seriously: expressing the sacred with elements of waitressing makeup. I believe my fascination with color and shine comes from my childhood. One day, while walking with my mother, we came across a woman in a flashy outfit and heavily made-up face. I thought she was very pretty and expressed this to my mother. She just smiled and later explained to me that the woman was a prostitute. With the series The Flight of the Birds, I 'raise awareness' of the problem and develop its possibilities, which I reaffirm and express fully in the series The Holy Family.
